A DIY UPYCLING - WORKSHOP - with self-carved stamps

Ein DIY UPYCLING - WORKSHOP - mit selbstgeschnitzten Stempeln - Beverly-Berlin

WHAT DO WE DO?

We carve stamps from rubber sheets individually according to your wishes and then print them on used textiles to individualize them and breathe new life/love into them.

Everything that isn't nailed down will be stamped!!

WHY STAMPS?

Stamps are quite easy to make, they offer many design possibilities on fabric and paper and they are of course reusable.

We mainly use it for fabric or for printing Christmas cards. Grandma's good old damask tablecloth can be turned into hand-printed pillowcases and old wrapping paper can be turned into unique gift wrap in no time.

Even very simple motifs can be used to create very exciting patterns by arranging them correctly.

Several stamps can be wonderfully combined with each other and… oh, the possibilities are endless… we’ll find out when we get there!

WHICH MATERIALS DO WE WORK WITH?

The stamp plates are made of vinyl and are very smooth to carve - much easier than lino or wood. We then work on the plates with the classic lino tool. For printing, we use high-quality screen printing ink, which is fixed by ironing and can then be washed at up to 60°C.

Since this is an upcycling workshop, we will of course be printing on used textiles. It also prints much better on fabric that has been washed often because the finish has been washed out and there is hardly any pile left. So bring old shirts, pillowcases or just fabric.

It is best to bring along a black and white copy of the motif or draw it on site with a pencil. We then transfer these to the vinyl plate using tracing paper. You can then glue a handle made from scrap wood onto the back of the finished stamp, which keeps your fingers cleaner and makes the printing process easier.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE AND HOW MANY?

In principle, anyone can take part. No previous knowledge is necessary. The level of difficulty varies depending on the motif. You can start with something simple and then work your way up slowly.

Since we use sharp-edged tools, we recommend the workshop for ages 14 and up. Of course, it is an advantage to have some manual skills, a tactful instinct and patience.

The number of participants is limited to 10 people, registration is required

WHAT DO YOU BRING WITH YOU?

- Good mood

- Lots of ideas and inspiration, also printed or copied in black and white

- The textiles you want to print on. Sweaters, shirts, trousers, jackets, scarves, shawls...bags, pouches, pillowcases, kitchen towels, (great) grandma's good old damask tablecloth and ideally also her bedding that has been ironed or mangled for years...that's what we like to print on the most!
